Using the season’s bounty of flora as influence and inspiration, I am exploring a variety of metal techniques within the context of botanical forms. Surface treatments such as reticulation, chasing & repousse’ and unusual techniques serve to enhance the forms in exploration. Direct molding, wax impressions, natural object casting, electroforming and incorporating found objects are also being investigated in exploring this organic approach to metalsmithing. Stay tuned to see how my project is coming – it will be completed by August 11, 2010.

Happy Hearts! I made this little heart as an experiment…and now it reminds me that I am falling behind on all those stars! I am anticipating creating a larger piece using an ocular that I am hoping to carve into the shape of a heart without shattering it. Thus I took a scrap of sea glass and carved a heart to see if I could actually do it without any accidents…
:: Check out: cathypentondesigns.com. I just discovered Cathy’s work today when I was waiting at the Home Depot by the cashiers and magazines. I had never seen a Romantic Homes Magazine before, so while waiting for my husband to come back to the front of the store, I was flipping through the magazine and there you were! Love her style. Heart-warming and so inspiring!
This post starts with a question I asked Ron, my beloved husband, after watching a segment about Steve Jobs and speculation about his health and the future of Apple on the news this evening. Nobody really knows what is going on with his health or how it might affect the state of things at Apple. But, one thing is certain: everyone, be it an individual, family or even a large company, must eventually face the music. No matter if one is destined to live a long life…or if one is destined to live well only to have his or her days cut short by unexpected circumstances such as a car accident, or what was supposed to be an important day gone horribly wrong, we all must face the facts that our time here is limited…
What is this new site all about? This is more for fun as I have been planning to create a separate online scrapbook for a while. The What’s New section at Fairman Studios is an inside look at the studio, with postings on projects and workshops that are happening. So this blog will have more fun and interesting content outside of the studio, like pictures from our travels, family events or plain old scrap material I have been meaning to organize. So, for future reference, come here to read what’s going on outside of the studio.
