Using the season’s bounty of flora as influence and inspiration, I am exploring a variety of metal techniques within the context of botanical forms. Surface treatments such as reticulation, chasing & repousse’ and unusual techniques serve to enhance the forms in exploration. Direct molding, wax impressions, natural object casting, electroforming and incorporating found objects are also being investigated in exploring this organic approach to metalsmithing. Stay tuned to see how my project is coming – it will be completed by August 11, 2010.
Hi there! My name is Margi, and I some how stumbled upon your blog post today! I am very found of your work and was wondering if I could ask you a question about your technique. I minored in Metalsmithing in college and continue to explore the craft in my home studio today as a hobby. One of the courses I have always regret not taking was casting. I love adding a third dimension to my work which is why one of my favorite techniques is chasing and repousse. I saw your work and wanted to ask you which casting procedure you were using so that I could look into taking a class in it. The leaf branch, seed pods, and cicada wings all have such great detail and I would love to learn myself how to produce a similar effect. I would appreciate it so much if you would guide me in the right direction so that I could take a class in time to make some christmas gifts! Thank you so much and happy creating!
Keep up the beautiful work,
Margi
